The marine park permit deserves a word of honesty. Published figures currently conflict between operators: some quote a single retribution of IDR 1,000,000 for foreign visitors, others describe an environmental services fee around IDR 700,000 plus a separate regency entry ticket of IDR 1,000,000. It is an annual pass bought in Sorong or Waisai and normally arranged by the crew before boarding. We confirm the current figure with the Raja Ampat tourism office at the time of your booking rather than printing a number that ages badly.
Why can’t a 3D2N charter reach Wayag or Misool?
Distance, not ambition. Waisai to Wayag is around 2.5 hours each way by fast speedboat and a full overnight leg on a cruising phinisi. Sorong or Waisai to Misool is an overnight passage of roughly 10–14 hours. Either destination eats both of your nights in transit and leaves nothing for the water. Operators who promise Wayag in three days are either using a speedboat with no sleeping accommodation, or they are not being straight with you. If Wayag is non-negotiable, budget seven nights; if you want Misool as well, budget ten to twelve.
How should you time your flights?
Sorong’s airport (IATA code SOQ) is the gateway, usually via Jakarta, Makassar or Bali on Garuda Indonesia or Lion Air. Morning arrivals at SOQ let you sail the same day; an afternoon arrival costs you a full cruising day. On departure, keep a comfortable buffer — build the return leg around a mid-afternoon or evening flight so a slow tide does not turn into a missed connection. Is 3 days enough for Raja Ampat?
Enough for the Dampier Strait — Manta Sandy, Cape Kri, Arborek, Yenbuba — and enough to understand why people return. Not enough for Wayag, Misool or the Fam Islands. Most guests who come for three nights tell us afterwards they wish they had booked five.
Can I charter for just two nights?
Some vessels accept a two-night minimum outside peak season; many set four nights as their floor, and almost all impose longer minimums over Christmas and New Year. Ask us for the current minimum on the boat you like.
Do we embark at Sorong or Waisai?
Either. Sorong embarkation saves you the ferry but adds a short overnight repositioning leg. Waisai embarkation puts you closer to the reef on day one; the public fast ferry from Sorong takes about two hours, a private speedboat roughly one to one and a half hours depending on sea state.
Can non-divers join?
